Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with serpent, and necklace / Nike standing left, holding wreath in extended right hand and cradling stylis in left arm; in left field, trident downward. In her study of Alexander’s primary Macedonian mint, Troxell noted that the staters with control symbols kantharos, trident, and thunderbolt were struck at more than one mint, and over a significant period. Only a small portion of these are attributable to the primary mint. Based on hoard data, Troxell dates those issues from other mints to just prior to Alexander’s death and a few years following.
